His words made it clear to most that the main event of UFC 249 was no longer going to happen. In the same time his critics swarmed in, confirming Khabib’s fear of sharing the cage with Tony Ferguson who is believed by many to be able to take out Khabib.
Shots were fired by Conor McGregor stating that Khabib has lost in the game of playing chicken, by pulling out. He stated the below:
The fact of this matter is, both Tony and Khabib where engaged in a game of chicken here towards the fight bell. With Khabib chickening out first. Making it 3-2 in pullouts in Tony’s favour. Khab scurried out of the U.S to home, and amid the crisis. Very high risk.

Congrats Tony.
Nonetheless, with a significant population of the world in quarantine, all naysayers cursing this bout, jumped the wagon claiming that this fight is not going to happen. But there seems for the hopefuls wanting this fight to happen, some light at the end of the tunnel, as Khabib clarified that he has not “chickened out”. The Russian fighter explained that he is willing to fight, if they can provide a definite location. He displayed his anger with what he claims a lack of certainty as to where the fight will happen. The UFC he says they mentioned the fight happening in Abu Dhabi and this is also not certain as far as the fighter is concerned. He also mentioned if the UFC could safely get him out of Russia to partake in the fight, he will agree with taking on Tony. The problem is that Russia has limited flights due to the pandemic, people have claimed private flights have not been stopped. But we have not verified theses claims.
So, for now we can conclude that the fight has not been cancelled and Khabib has not pulled away from the event. This has not decreased the anxiety of the fight fans still waiting for the colossus fight to happen, as it may not happen, and things are still uncertain.
