I decided to revisit this topic. His explanation on Zhong Ding was the following:
Zhong ding is a balance point between yin and yang. I used to think it was “centre of balance” or “centre of gravity” etc. But it is a much deeper concept.
The Center of balance is part of zhong ding. At a physical level. Beyond that, there is an aspect of the fascia that stores energy like a spring. Like a loaded gun that is not expressing any noticeable force “yet” but must be considered and sensed in the yin yang equation. Center of balance starts to be less useful when those internals are involved.
And there is the bias of the nervous system and the mind of both you and your opponents. That tilts the energies and the true yin yang balance.
Again, this might not be sensed at a physical level but is part of the zhong ding equation.
Zhan Zhuang gives a practitioner an intimate understanding of zhong ding. And the depth of it is endless and dependent on the time and quality of training listening energy. Deep physical balances, deep mental fluctuations, and energy fluctuations.
Gravity is a great tool to anchor the mind to perceive deeper levels of zhong ding. The balance point between yin and yang at the physical, mental, and energetic levels.
His explanation was great and made me think even more about Zhong ding. That means more training for better understanding.
The health benefits are not just physical but mental as well. This aids in having a clear and focused mind. Which benefits fighters or normal athletes and even the average layman.
He then concluded with:
Gravity is an amazing tool of reference against fluctuations. A constant anchor of sorts for the physical and mental qualities. It is one of the unique forces acting on everyone equally after all. Whoever tunes to the frequency of gravity more intimately has a deeper perception of zhong ding.
But also, important to know gravity is not all about just sinking. It is more about the quality of pure yin.
