Tai Chi or Taiji Quan is a martial art, however, its authentic practice is rarely known. It would seem mostly in the West where some people have perverted it to just a dance.

And you have those who know of its authentic practice but due to laziness or other reasons. Try to obfuscate the matter further by speaking of “it’s only for health”.

The thing about self-defence is that it is an extension of health. So, the excuse that this ancient art of combat is nothing but a slow health enhancing form is a lie.

If we go back to history, origin and truth, Tai Chi was and is for combat, can it enhance your health? Of course, a healthy body and mind is what is needed for one to operate in daily life.

The principles are what make Tai Chi authentic such as the sinking of the chest and raising of the back etc.

Its principles are not unique to Tai Chi itself but are mostly universal to most traditional Chinese martial art styles. At a basic level and as they reach their complexities this where one may see some distinction or different interpretations.

Taiji Quan can enhance your other martial art styles that you do, and if one wants to reach its highest paths once cannot avoid its martial truth.
